What does not have to be stored?

Working stock:

  • does not have to be stored in a fire-resistant cabinet or storage container;
  • has to match the quantity needed for 1 day;
  • may not be located on the route of forklift trucks or other vehicles;
  • may not obstruct emergency routes.

What must be stored?

  • Hazardous substances that are in storage.
  • Hazardous substance that are awaiting outflow.

How must hazardous substances be stored?

Hazardous substances must be stored in a storage device such as a fire-resistant cabinet, storage container and such.

Storage must meet the following requirements:

  • If the working stock consists of 50 or more litres of hazardous fluids, the package must be placed on top of a liquid-tight spill tray or a comparable device. The capacity of the spill tray should equal the largest package +10% of the total;
  • A storage cabinet may be used to store up to 150 litres;
  • A container may be used to store up to 500 litres
  • Spilled or leaked hazardous substances must be cleaned up as soon as possible.

Which substances must be stored separately?

  • Packaged hazardous substances that might react with one and other;
  • This concerns reactions that result in a temperature or pressure change or the formation of gasses.
  • Check the product information sheet on the hazardous substance in question. The product information sheet states whether the product must be stored separately.

The storage facility must:

  • be closed off and ventilated using outside air;
  • contain a pictogram or the text “NO SMOKING NO OPEN FLAMES”;
  • be kept clean.

Requirements PGS-cabinet:

  • Decanting in a PGS-cabinet (Publication Series Hazardous Substances) is prohibited;
  • Do not store “non-hazardous substances” in a PGS-cabinet;
  • Only use PGS-cabinets that are self-locking;
  • Upon use, close the PGS-cabinet doors.

The packaging:

  • of the stored substances must be in good condition; and
  • must contain the relevant marking (hazard symbols, labels)
