 >  Treaded rods
Discussion > Talk with your colleagues about it!
  • In my view, shielding every threaded rod is excessive.
  • Did you ever accidentally come into contact with a threaded rod? What happened then?

Introduction

In this toolbox we devote attention to threaded rods. Threaded rods (positioned horizontally or vertically) can cause ugly and nasty injuries and if the accident has an unfortunate outcome they can also be life-threatening.

Risks > What can happen?

When you fall onto or come into contact with a threaded rod you may be exposed to the following risks:

  • tripping
  • bruising
  • abrasions
  • cuts

Measures > What must you do?

Cap/shield threaded rods using:

  • Plastic end caps
  • Plastic sleeves
  • End caps
  • Shield using wood beams
  • Another solution is to mark or fence off the area
  • Protective caps with a square base are suitable for 8-18 mm diameter threaded rods
  • Protective caps with a round base are suitable for 20-45 mm diameter threaded rods
  • Place special buckets (with a reinforced bottom) over the rods

You can also reduce the risk by avoiding the use of unnecessarily long centre pins.

Aside from shielding threaded rods, in some cases you can also have the bending centre bend the threaded rods in advance so that there are no sharp protruding parts.

Tips > For more information

Shielding threaded rods requires little effort, while failing to do so can have major consequences. So shielding them is a must!
